Book Fair
5th AND 6th MAY
Thousands of books.  Pick up great bargains.
Wagga Showground 8.00 am

Book! Book! Book!

Our Book Fair, one of the largest in regional centres, is held each May. The Book Fair next year 2018 will be held on Saturday 5th (8.00am - 5.00pm), and Sunday 6th (9.00am - 4.00pm).
We have worked hard over the last 15 years to develop the event and this year we put out in excess of 40,000 books, as well as CD's, DVD's, sheet music and much more.  This attracted a crowd of over 2000 from Wagga Wagga and the surrounding area, and included collectors, sellers, enthusiasts and visitors from more distant parts.  We were complimented on the quality and display of the stock.  A popular innovation in recent years has been "Fill a Bag for $50" option. The volume of stock, comprising some 25 pallets, requires a semi-trailer to transport to the venue.  We are assisted in the unloading and setting up by members of the South Wagga Apex Club, students from the CSU Veterinary School, and partners and friends of Rotarians.
The 2017 Book Fair was very successful, with receipts in excess of $50,000 for the first time.  This will be used to fund community needs and activities throughout the year.  Total Book Fair takings since inception now exceeds $450,000.  As well as promoting reading and literacy within the community, those books of a quality considered not suitable for resale, are effectively recycled.
The event has taken on a real community involvement.  The stock is donated by the community, and the sorting and organising is done by Rotarians and volunteers.  The transport of the stock, and the carry bags are generously donated by local organisations.  The local media provides excellent support in promoting the event, and the funds raised support and benefit the community through various Rotary activities.
Last year our success was tragically short-lived, as vandals mindlessly struck our store-room, setting fire to and destroying our seed stock, signage and other infrastructure.  We were left temporarially homeless, as the room was badly damaged and was not repaired.  While this puts us back to square one, that is where we started, and are now working towards a revitalised event for subsequent years.  Despite our lack of permanent storage at this time, we are still able to accept donations of saleable items.
If you have books you would like to donate, there is a local business who kindly acts as a drop-off point. Elders in Kincaid Street  will happily accept your donation. If you cannot get to this locations, or have a very large donation, please contact us here and we will organise for a Rotarian to pick it up from you. Thank you for your support, and see you there next year.
NEWS FLASH    The good news is that we are back in business, with new temporary storage and sorting facilities.  We are accepting book donations.
