Welcome to the Henrik Sogaard page. Henrik spent a year with our club back in 2005, and we still keep in touch. On this page we will share news and photos of this remarkable young man. Henrik's first day in Wagga Wagga - meeting the local wildlife. The new Sogaard boat! Check out the name! Rungsted is the name of Henrik's home town in Denmark. Henrik's 21st! Hard to believe, it's 2010 and 5 years have passed since our Danish exchange student Henrik Rask Sogaard arrived in Wagga Wagga, eager to sail the delights of Lake Albert (what a surprise we had in store for him!) He had a wonderful year with us, despite the lack of available water, and returned home to finish school and enrol at university. Henrik recently turned 21 and the Club sent him a small package to celebrate his coming of age, and to remind him a little of us.
Olympic Training
Our former Youth Exchange student Henrik Sogaard is seen here training for the Danish Olympic Sailing team in Mallorca, Spain.
Eurovision Song Contest
Although not known for singing - Henrik was part of the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest as part of the Danish Postcard, shown before the Danish competitors sang.
Check it out here!
Henrik is heading back to Australia!
During November and December, Henrik and his crew Tobias will be heading down under to compete in the World Championships in Fremantle WA. This is a very important regatta as it will be one of two chances the boys will have to qualify for the Danish Olympic Sailing Team. Our Club is supporting Henrik's efforts by trying to find billets in the Fremantle area through the local Rotary Clubs, and hopefully some of us might even get to go and watch him!
If anyone knows of a place Henrik and Tobias can stay, or would like to support them financially (they have to pay their own way - including freighting the boat to Australia), please email Sue Honey through the Contact Us page.
